Robinson Ewor, a former PDP Chairman in Rivers State, has revealed that he initially supported Governor Siminalayi Fubara because he believed the governor was being mistreated by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Speaking from 1:59 in a media coverage by TVC, Ewor explained his earlier stance and subsequent change of perspective. “I followed Sim honestly and sincerely from my heart, believing that our minister was not fair to him, was undoing him, was intimidating him. That was the belief, and that is the belief so many Rivers people, including those who are there with him, believe—that the minister is intimidating him, is undoing him. But it’s not the truth,” he said.
The former party chairman clarified that Wike has not undermined the governor’s authority. “The minister is not intimidating the governor. The minister doesn’t do anything that will undermine his office,” Ewor stated.
He noted that governors bear full responsibility for leadership once they assume office, including mediating conflicts and reconciling disagreements. Ewor cited the political crisis that prompted Presidential intervention, noting that an agreement was reached but allegedly not honored.
According to Ewor, Governor Fubara failed to implement the terms agreed upon during the Presidential mediation, contrary to widespread perceptions that blame the minister or the House of Assembly.
