In a recent interview from 17:32 on Channels Television, Honourable Leke Abejide, the lawmaker representing Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi State, shared his views on the zoning of presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 elections. Speaking on the relevance of regional balance in Nigerian politics, Abejide stressed the importance of respecting southern representation in the nation’s leadership.
He stated, “Any party that loves Nigeria will always zone its presidential candidate to the South,” underscoring his belief that political parties must consider fairness and historical precedents when selecting their standard-bearers.
Honourable Abejide explained that zoning ensures inclusivity, prevents marginalization, and strengthens national unity. He noted that previous administrations have benefited from adhering to regional rotation, while neglecting this principle has historically led to internal party crises and electoral setbacks.
