Dr. Umar Ardo, a former political strategist, has revealed that his prolonged stay within the People’s Democratic Party was a calculated move to undermine the party from within. He disclosed that despite orchestrating the foundational plans for the opposition coalition’s 2015 victory, he never officially crossed over to register as a member.
According to a video from 15:30 posted on the Official YouTube channel of Arise News on Tuesday May 26, 2026, while explaining his controversial role in the 2015 power shift, he stated, “I remained in the PDP to make sure the party went out, so I was never an APC member, and immediately after Buhari became president he shut me out, which led to me remaining in the PDP.”
The politician explained that his decision to stay behind enemy lines was intended to facilitate the smooth exit of the then-ruling party. However, his expectations of a political reward or inclusion in the new government were completely shattered when the newly elected president cut off all communication with him immediately after taking office.
This unexpected betrayal forced him to navigate his political future back within the opposition ranks for several more years. Ardo noted that being sidelined by the administration he helped conceptualize left him with no choice but to rebuild his structure outside the ruling party, eventually leading to his exit much later in 2022.
