According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Saunday, May 24, 2026, former Big Brother Naija housemate, Queen Mercy Atang, has revealed that the viral bread-themed dress she wore to the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) caused her a back injury due to its weight and structure.

The reality star had attracted widespread attention at the event after appearing in a unique gown reportedly made from 500 loaves of bread.

Speaking during an interview with BBC News Pidgin, Atang explained that the outfit was created by fashion designer Toyin Lawani under her fashion label, Tiannah Empire.

She stated that the dress was not a simple design, as it took several weeks to complete and required multiple fittings before it was ready for the red carpet appearance.

According to her, the construction process was detailed and physically demanding because of the materials used in creating the outfit.

Atang further explained that although the dress was designed to be visually striking for the event, it came with unexpected physical discomfort.

She said the weight of the outfit placed pressure on her body, particularly her back, which eventually led to an injury.

She stated that the idea was meant to combine fashion with business visibility, using the red carpet platform to highlight her brand presence in a unique way.

She further revealed that attending the AMVCA was not originally part of her personal plan for the year.

According to her, she had intended to focus more on her business activities and preferred to keep things simple regarding event appearances.

However, she said her designer encouraged her to attend the event and advised her against choosing a simple outfit, insisting that a bold fashion statement would better suit the occasion.

Atang also explained that part of her decision to attend the event physically was influenced by her desire to avoid misunderstandings online.

She noted that she wanted to be physically present at the red carpet rather than only posting pictures afterward, in order to prevent people from assuming the images were digitally created or altered.

According to her, she wanted her appearance at the event to be seen as authentic and real.

She said, “I wanted to go to the event physically even after the red carpet had closed. I did not want to post the picture online alone, so people would not say it was AI-generated.”….Read_More…
