Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South Senatorial District, has lamented that constructive criticism of government actions is increasingly being perceived as hostility toward the state.

Speaking during an interview with Arise TV from 7:27, Senator Abaribe expressed concern over the deteriorating climate for political discourse. “There is something that has kind of developed within our polity that is not quite okay. Whenever you give any sincere advice, a sincere criticism, they say Oh, you want to pull down this government. That’s not a democracy. It makes a lot of people who will have things to offer now shrink back because they’re not so sure that they will not be misunderstood in this way,” he said.

The senator argued that individuals who unconditionally support the presidency regardless of performance do not serve the administration’s best interests. “Those people who do all this trying to impress Mr. President are not doing him a favor because for a government to succeed, it will not only be the yesmen that will make them succeed. A government succeeds because you take on board everybody,” Abaribe stated.

He clarified his position as a critic rather than an opponent of the government, stating that while the current administration inherited many challenges, taking the oath of office creates an obligation to solve problems rather than watch it continue. View, More,
