Former Assistant Inspector-General of Police Olatoye Durosinmi has refuted claims that police officers fled before bandits attacked Comprehensive Girls Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, asserting instead that they were outgunned by heavily armed attackers.
Speaking during an interview with TVC from 14:25, Durosinmi explained the circumstances of the incident. “From what I heard, the kind of weapons they carried were high and highly military-type and they were able to get away but our men gave their all. I worked in Kebbi before, and I know that the police in Kebbi have been running around the clock, but that is a state surrounded by many states, including international boundaries,” he said.
The former police chief described Kebbi as a peaceful, rice-producing state populated by hardworking farmers. He characterized the school attack as an isolated incident carried out by criminals from another state who entered specifically for that mission. Durosinmi noted that while intelligence existed about the threat, reinforcements could not arrive in time to prevent the abduction.
He advocated for implementing Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun’s proposed intervention force, which would include air and marine units as an enhanced version of the Mobile Police Force. He argued that establishing this specialized force would resolve 50 percent of Nigeria’s security challenges. View, More,
