According to a report by Vanguard, on Saturday November 29, 2025, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has stated he is ready to resign from office if President Bola Tinubu does not win the 2027 presidential election.
The governor said the All Progressives Congress is now the strongest political force in Edo.
He explained that the party faces almost no serious opposition as preparations for the next general election continue.
According to him, recent political events show that the APC has gained wide support across Edo communities.
Okpebholo said President Tinubu’s popularity in the state has increased in the past months.
He linked this growth to several early achievements of his own administration.
He referred to the recent bye-election in Esan, where the APC recorded a strong performance.
He said the result shows that residents are leaning toward the ruling party.
The governor stated that Edo people are prepared to reward Tinubu with their votes.
He expressed confidence that the president will win the state in 2027.
He stated that he would step down as governor if this prediction does not come true.
The governor said that the political atmosphere in Edo is shifting.
He believes the shift favours the APC and will play a major role in the next presidential election.
Okpebholo maintains that Tinubu will win Edo in 2027 and insists he is willing to put his own position on the line.
“Everybody is for Asiwaju. The people will thank him with their votes. If he does not win, I’d resign,” Okpebholo said. View, More,
