Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Adviser on Public Communication and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has responded after the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) refused to withdraw police officers from the FCT Minister, other VIPs.

In a post shared on his official X account on Friday, November 28, 2025, Olayinka addressed the controversy that emerged after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to reduce police escorts assigned to VIPs nationwide.

Amid widespread speculation, a document circulated online claiming that security personnel had already been pulled from Wike and other prominent individuals. The Nigeria Police Force later dismissed the document, describing it as fake and emphasizing that although the presidential directive is being implemented, it is being done “professionally and methodically.”

Reacting to the development, Olayinka criticized the publication of the alleged document. He specifically accused Omoyele Sowore of using his media platform to disseminate misinformation.

According to him, “Sowore used his Sahara Reporters to publish fake news,” reinforcing his stance that the viral document was fabricated.

The clarification from both Olayinka and the NPF adds to ongoing discussions surrounding the adjustment of police protection for high-profile individuals across the country. View, More,
