In a recent interview on Symfoni TV from 5:15, the National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Atiku Isa, shared an emotional story about his encounter with the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, while both were in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to Isa, the experience left a deep mark on him and changed his perception of Kanu completely. He recalled that during their time together, he became inspired by Kanu’s courage, discipline, and concern for others. Isa said, “I told Kanu, ‘I’m ready to remain in detention,’ but he said, ‘No, this place is not good for you.’”
He explained that Kanu’s response reflected his selflessness and humanity. “That statement touched me deeply,” Isa said. “He was more concerned about my wellbeing than his own, even though he was the one facing a tougher situation.” Isa described Kanu as a man who always preached peace, fairness, and justice rather than hatred or rebellion.
The student leader also recounted how Kanu advised him to stay focused on his purpose and to continue speaking truth to power, urging him never to allow detention or intimidation to break his spirit. Isa said Kanu’s calmness and composure inside the DSS facility were signs of inner strength and conviction.
He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, saying such a move would foster reconciliation and reduce rising tension in the Southeast. Isa concluded that Kanu’s freedom would prove to Nigerians that true leadership is about compassion, dialogue, and justice. View, More,
