Aloy Ejimakor, one of the former lawyers of Nnamdi Kanu, has shared his thoughts on the decision of the detained IPOB leader to defend himself in court against the Federal Government of Nigeria.

In a video shared by SYMFONI TV from 29.04, speaking during an interview, Ejimakor said that Nnamdi Kanu’s decision to represent himself in court is not new in history, as many famous figures have done the same. He explained that Kanu also has legal consultants who can guide him whenever he needs expert advice.

Ejimakor compared Kanu’s action to that of several world leaders who once stood for themselves in court. He mentioned that Martin Luther King Jr. did it in the United States, Mahatma Gandhi did it in South Africa before returning to India, and Nelson Mandela also tried defending himself at some point during his struggle against apartheid.

He also recalled a similar example in Nigeria, saying, “In 1963, Chief Obafemi Awolowo defended himself; he was assisted by some lawyers, including one from England, who was denied entry into Nigeria but eventually was granted entry.”

Ejimakor said that history shows many great people have defended themselves when facing political or criminal trials, and Nnamdi Kanu’s choice follows that same path. He added that Kanu is wise and smart enough to know when to seek legal advice and when to speak for himself, stressing that this decision does not mean he will not receive help from experts when needed.
